Kalamazoo Backyard Renovation Case Study
Our client engaged us on the renovated design and installation of their new backyard space. The kids needed a safe space to play, and their parents needed a place to relax and enjoy their home, so we went to the drawing board. After a comprehensive meeting with our client, we went to work gathering the appropriate measurements to draft a CAD and 3D design.
After developing a plan to remove the rotting railroad tie walls without compromising the structural integrity of the deck above, we provided our client with a 3D design presentation and a thorough estimate within their budget. We selected Consumers Concrete Rockwood Classic blocks for the new retaining wall construction along with Consumers Concrete Canyon Tumbled pavers for the new paver patio and walkway installation. The timber steps were also replaced with large three-foot wide and six-foot wide Rosetta Dimensional steps.
We added an intimate pea-gravel area in a previously unusable space along with a boulder fire ring using boulders found on site. Upon completion of the new hardscape installation, we delivered processed topsoil to grade the lawn areas damaged by our equipment, and we planted grass to return the lawn to its pre-construction condition. Our client is beyond pleased with the result!
Bell’s Eccentric Café Beer Garden Project 2019
We were thrilled to be involved in the beer garden renovations at Bell’s Eccentric Café in downtown Kalamazoo in the spring of 2019. Our hardscape crews often setup a camera to record projects from start to finish. This time-lapse video shows 6 weeks of construction in under two minutes! Check out our installation process of a full color bluestone walkway, a brick dance floor with bluestone accent bands, and fresh Kentucky Bluegrass sod
Be ready for company
I loved this project because it was an absolute clean slate. In addition, we had an amazing view of the vineyard in the background. We were all very happy with how it turned out. There wasn’t too much to welcome people to this backyard. After our installation, it’s a backyard that the homeowners are going to want to show off.
Natural Spaces
I love to create spaces that benefit wildlife, while still being beautiful for us to enjoy. This garden has a diversity of plants, layers, but also low maintenance. Beginning a maintenance company 8 years ago opened my eyes to the time to maintain, materials we waste, and chemicals we pour into our gardens. I like creating living spaces with fragrance, edible plants, and cover for both human & wildlife. This garden was designed to keep this balance.
Lakehouse
Retaining walls though most of the time necessary for function can also become quite the focal accent. On this job we used Consumer's product AB Europa Collection in a staggered dimensional pattern. This is a beautiful, tumbled block that really softened the appearance of a large wall. We added even more interest with terraces as well as a staircase. Great plant selection and maintenance keep this place looking pristine.
Added Outdoor Living Space
Sloped yards are definitely more interesting than flat lawns but can pose problems with functionality. We added a small patio extended onto the deck to give room for additional seating. The view of Gull Lake was worth the extra effort.
